A stroll through Seville’s city centre From Hoteles del Sur
From the doorstep of Hoteles del Sur – our historic accommodation in Seville’s city centre – begins a route that invites you to discover the city in the most authentic way. The historic centre gradually reveals itself amongst narrow alleyways, quiet squares and facades rich in detail.
Through this walk we suggest, you’ll be able to discover a more authentic, intimate Seville, full of little surprises.

Seville’s must-sees What to see in the city centre
The Alameda de Hércules And its surroundings
Just a few minutes’ walk from our apartments lie some of the most characterful spots in the centre of Seville. The Alameda de Hércules blends history, terraces and a local atmosphere at any time of day, whilst places such as the Basilica de la Macarena, the Palacio de las Dueñas or Las Setas allow you to start the route by discovering a Seville very different from the more touristy areas.

The Santa Cruz neighbourhood Where Seville slows down
The stroll continues in Santa Cruz , one of those neighbourhoods where the best approach isn’t to follow a map, but to let yourself be guided by the moment. The narrow streets provide shade even in summer, and silence descends the moment you stray from the main avenues. Agua Street, Susona Street and the small hidden courtyards allow you to discover a more intimate Seville, very different from the fleeting impression visitors usually take away.

The Giralda Emerges from the alleyways
Reaching Seville Cathedral via the narrow streets completely changes the feel of the walk. The Giralda does not appear suddenly, but gradually, peeking out from between balconies, orange trees and ancient façades. Mateos Gago remains one of the best routes for exploring this area because it combines bustle, history and that feeling of walking through a city that has remained virtually unchanged for centuries.

Plaza del Cabildo One of the city centre’s secrets
Just a few metres from the Cathedral lies one of the most unexpected corners of Seville’s city centre. Plaza del Cabildo goes unnoticed by many visitors, but you only need to step through its small entrance to find a peaceful, quiet semi-circular square. The arcades, the light and the atmosphere make it seem completely removed from the tourist bustle that lies just a few steps away.

El Postigo The quieter side of Seville
The route continues towards the Postigo del Aceite , one of those areas where Seville still retains a certain old-world charm. Here, the pottery shops, narrow façades and narrow streets invite you to slow your pace. The Postigo arch has watched goods arrive from the river for centuries and today continues to serve as a perfect transition between Seville’s monumental side and its more everyday life.

A break with a Sevillian flavour
Halfway through the stroll, it’s worth stopping at a small tavern away from the more crowded terraces. In the El Postigo area, it’s still easy to find bars where you can order spinach with chickpeas, a montadito or a glass of vermouth without being in too much of a hurry. Eating in Seville is also part of the experience of exploring the city, and often the simplest places end up being the most memorable.

El Arenal And the path towards the Guadalquivir
From El Postigo, the route continues towards the El Arenal neighbourhood, an area historically linked to trade and the arrival of travellers from the Americas. El Arenal is one of the most characterful areas of the historic centre. Amongst the narrow streets and old buildings, Seville’s connection to trade and the river is still palpable. In fact, many of these areas form part of the itineraries recommended by the official Visit Seville website.

Reaching the river The perfect ending
At dusk, the Paseo de Colón and the area around the Guadalquivir offer one of the most beautiful views of Seville’s city centre. The golden light, the street musicians and the gentle flow of people make this part of the city the perfect end to the route.
Afterwards, walking back will allow you to end the day at a leisurely pace and continue enjoying the atmosphere of the historic centre.
